WINTER SEASON  

You know all that overcast weather and low lying clouds lately?  Well, it does affect us.  With limited light in the evening one may feel "under the weather". So, please keep in mind, that you are conserving your Kidney Qi so it can energize your springtime.  This is like a bank account for you energy and health.  We are supposed to be a bit more laid back yet this time of year.

Towards the end of February, we can begin to let out our Liver Qi bit by bit in preparation for spring. Then you will have a good springtime with abundant energy, less allergies and inflammation.  This is a pretty big deal.  So, sit tight for a bit yet and practice for winter benefits:

 

  • Continue to stay warm, keep covered with two layers on the legs. The channels on the legs are what you need to protect to stay warm. From the waist down are your water channels, you do not want them to freeze the water, then your legs feel nothing, they can't even tell you that they are cold!

  • Take a nap to recharge the Heart energy anytime from 11:00 am -1:00 pm.

  • Go to bed by 10:30 pm or earlier to nourish Heart and its ability to connect to others. Something to think about if you are feeling lonely.

  • Eat warm, cooked foods for at least 2 meals per day.  IE: if you are having a sandwich, then have a cup of soup or broth or miso with your "cold" sandwich. 

  • Eat breakfast before 9:00 am.  Each morning the gallbladder is ready to release enzymes that it has been making all night for you.  When you choose not to eat, there is no where for these enzymes to go, except back up. (Backed up)  This is the beginning of gallbladder stagnation and can lead to impairment of this organ system as well as the pancreas.  The gallbladder and pancreas have a gift for you to use each morning, you can start a practice by accepting this gift!

January 25th is the start of the Chinese New Year and the beginning of the next 12 year cosmological sequence.  We practice Qigong to influence internal alchemy - as in: change yourself.  You can put into action the principles of Feng Shui for external alchemy -  change your surroundings.
